Good for you!

Benefits are very important :D

Rob Instigator 09.26.2008 10:25 AM

There are good recrd stores and great places to see tourring shows and nearly all bands of all sizes stop in austin, so that is a plus. There are some good people too, don;t let me make the mistake of not adding that.
If you already know some people there it is better, but if you ove there cold it is kind of a harsh cliquish experience, and it can take a long time to get to know anyone.

oh, and Austin is the capital of Texas in one other respect, nowhere else will you find so many athletic-bodied Butterfaces. There are some doozies!!!!!

o'connor 09.26.2008 10:43 AM

lol i haven't heard butterfaces in a loooong time lol. that sucks. i'm not a huge fan of ugly chicks.

actually, it seems as if the new trend is the belly-pooch.

I've never seen so many girls who look pregnant drinking as I did the last time I was there. it really was bizarre. and I'm not talking about girls who just aren't skinny. they are skinny girls WITH belly pooches. maybe it's all the beer.

o'connor 09.26.2008 10:56 AM

that's why i don't drink beer, that shit'll give you a gut.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 09.26.2008 11:29 AM

Congratulationssss!!!

I agree with rob
Austin is okay to visit
But I would never live there
It's too "laid back" (stoner central) for my taste

o'connor 09.26.2008 11:45 AM

i like laid back. not lazy though, just laid back.

Inhuman 09.26.2008 11:54 AM

Congrats, I know how it feels to direly need change. What brings you to austin though?
I'm doing practically the same thing...in two weeks as well. I'm quitting my job and moving to Montreal. Scouting out for a Montreal job next week.

o'connor 09.26.2008 12:14 PM

eh not really change. just more money lol

o'connor 10.02.2008 09:21 AM

Rob Instigator 10.02.2008 09:30 AM

Don't forget the bats !!!

Bat Season is Mid-March to Early November

About Congress Bridge Bats

The Congress Avenue Bridge spans Town Lake in downtown Austin and is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. The colony is estimated at 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats. Each night from mid-March to November, the bats emerge from under the bridge at dusk to blanket the sky as they head out to forage for food. This event has become one of the most spectacular and unusual tourist attractions in Texas. The most spectacular bat flights are during hot, dry August nights, when multiple columns of bats emerge. There are several points from which to view the event, and an information kiosk is located on the north bank of the river, just east of the bridge.

eat breakfast at the Magnolia Cafe. I suggest the T-Rex omelette.

greedrex 10.02.2008 09:46 AM

omg, how i hate these little shits. They really scare me. yes i'm a pussy.

Rob Instigator 10.02.2008 09:50 AM

yeah! the bats are cool! I like the fractal nature of the swarm, as it winds and coils upon itself.

Waterloo records is a must-visit, at 6th and lamar I think.

Sound on Sound, if it is still there, is kick ass. You'll have to ask someone how o get there.

The Whole Foods home ofice is there along with the goddamn largest fucking whole foods supermarket in the fuckin world.

The Austin Record covention is this weekend. it is twice a year, the Fall one being the biggest. HUGE record convention. I went a few years ago with $150 to spend and got some choice fucking albums. Came back with like 20 Jazz, punk, indie, classsical, blues albums.

There is a lot of BBQ, but if you like RIBS, pork ribs, then go to Texas Rib Kings, on the northern side of austin. (hope they are still there) FUCK the ribs are amazing wonderful.

In all the time I lived in Austin I don't think I ever managed to see the bats. I guess I never crossed the bridge at the right time.

Some other stuff...
End of An Ear Records: By far the best record store in Austin. South 1st St.

Caves! Enter the greenbelt from the far west side, cross the river, and walk towards the big hill with the rock wall. There are a bunch of wicked bad ass caves over there.

Cathedral of Junk video on youtube: http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=FTWMFBOKiRA

ooooh. There's good and cheap Vietnamese food to be had on the east side of Oltorf. 888 and Hai KY.

StevOK 10.02.2008 01:52 PM

I somehow missed this thread. My sister lives in Austin. I think all she ever does is go to class and go bowling. She's pretty boring, but I bet there's lots of neat stuff for you to do.

Rob Instigator 10.02.2008 01:58 PM

I did a googl3e search for "austin girls"
