I mentioned Gene Vincent (we nearly named our so Gene after him) but I was also a big fan of Eddie Cochran. He started out doing more country/hillbilly stuff, mainly as part of the Cochran Brothers with Hank Cochran (no relation).

The man you hear on the radio bears very little resemblance to the host of Buzzcocks or the lame comedian. He's just really passionate and knowledgable about the music he likes. He's compiled a few CDs including Roc-King Up A Storm and Mark Lamarr's Ace Is Wild. Both are absolutely faultless compilatons.

I also agree with everything you said about psychobilly, The Cramps and Reverend Horton Heat.

An essential book for anybody interested in the pre-rock 'n' roll era:

Nick Tosches writing is fantastic anyway, but in this he is opinionated, uncompromising and very very funny.

In fact if you have any interest in music at all, then this is for you.

I've not read that. I'll have to keep a look out for it.

I'm reading this at the moment. Really good stuff:

I don't really like much psychobilly besides Tiger Army. Nick 13's voice is just too damn awesome, and I like their lyrics.

I'm surprised there's any psychobilly bands still going.
