Ditto. I often find I can't sleep if I dwell on time and how it either seems to move incredibly fast or incredibly slow.

Thinking about time too much makes me feel like clay. Too real. Like I shouldn't be able to move. I'll take my metaphysical want-based existence over the acceptance of physical reality any day.

Time travel is only possible if there were infinite dimensions, and then it wouldn't be time travel because you would just be visiting other dimensions that were running on a slightly different time line.

And if time travel were to happen in a single plane of time then you wouldn't see your self in past of present because the matter that made you exist in space is/would be currently making up the you that went back or foward into time. Because there is a defined amount of matter in existence the latter way of time travel would be impossible, kind of.

acousticrock87 07.18.2008 11:33 PM

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 07.18.2008 11:40 PM

what if two people did that at once?

acousticrock87 07.18.2008 11:44 PM

Something like this:

I see.

Cantankerous 07.19.2008 12:09 AM

actually, yknow, fuck time travel

i want to go here

hey, i could pay richard branson £100,000 for 5 minutes in space

Anngella 07.19.2008 12:27 AM

Every time I've thought about time travel I've come to the conclusion that it's a grand paradox.
I haven't really read too much about it, though. But I've had a few discussions with people who have.
My room smells funny.

Cantankerous 07.19.2008 12:33 AM

also not only does it freak me out to think about space and time
but it actually scares me

looking out the window at night scares me too though

and i still don't sleep in the dark
especially if the closet isn't shut

davenotdead 07.19.2008 12:41 AM

i like dark a lot

time used to scare me... or not time, but the concept of infinity. that still irks me a little... we really have no idea how to gauge infinity

Cantankerous 07.19.2008 12:44 AM

it's the things that i can't see or don't know about that scare me, because i have an overactive imagination.

i want to go back home
and then i'm never leaving my apartment ever again

i had that... or still have it... but was only scared when i was 4-8... its just your imagination filling in the blanks of your eyes

davenotdead 07.19.2008 12:51 AM

i like dark so much... one summer i pretty much didn't wake up till 4 pm, and didn't look outside until the sun was going down because i was so sick of the sun... i did it for a couple weeks at least... i also have good night vision, maybe because i ate a lot of carrots as an infant

The best time machine :

Death & the Maiden 07.19.2008 04:44 AM

Reading about time travel, parallel universes and how the universe is going to end on Wikipedia is both fun and creepy.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 07.19.2008 09:58 AM

already exists.

let me explain:

I have to get to Highland Park, twenty or so miles away, and I normally take the light rails with a bus, and it takes an hour and a half. This itself is magical, as aside from it my feet would take hours and hours, perhaps an entire days journey like following the damned Mission trails to get there.

Now If I jump in a car, and take the freeway short cut up the 710 to the 5 to the 110 exist ave43leftrightleftstraight.... I suddenly find myself in Highland Park in 45 minutes or less. a straight fucking time machine, you can go from being late to early with no traffic....

further, say I want to get to Portland Oregon, which took me 36 hours on the train [well, it was stopped or delayed for 10 or so of those hours..], or will take you 18 hours of straight driving north on the 5, or you can jump on a southwest flight north for 150 bucks and be there in an hour and 15 minutes. when I took the train, I went through all my albums, when I took the plane, I got through the airport, on the plane, took off, landed, changed planes, took off, landed, got out of the airport 1200 miles from home and still had not even finished one Grateful Dead concert recording! straight fucking time travel.

I think if someone gave me the option of travelling through time or spending a week readinng Heidegger, I'd probably do the latter.

Remember - speed can reduce the time spent travelling; it doesn't actually affect time itself in any way. Having said that, if you went up in space for a few years you'd find that people on Earth had actually lived longer when you returned. Ooh.

Bergson, anyone?
