in the spirit of this thread i'd like to recommend the yugoslav band diciplina kicme, their 80s output anyway. i'll upload something later.

Isn't that the most gorgeous piece of music in the past 500 years?

i'm 20 seconds into the track, and yes it is.

porkmarras 06.04.2006 01:42 PM

Why aren't these people more famous?

I'll make sure that i'll check them out.

Plastic People? I remember seeing them live in 1999 in Bratislava, about a month before Hlavsa (lead singer and bass player) died of cancer. In general opinion their best output was done during harsh communist times in Czechoslovakia (1980-1989), they were badly persecuted, their public performance was banned etc.
Nevertheless, their later output has not been that convincing.

I love the rhyme:
"My zijeme v Praze,
to je tam,
kde se jednou zjevi
Duch sam"

meaning:
"We live in Prague,
it's where
once the Spirit itself
will appear"

here's the disciplina CD, when i said yugoslav i should really have said serbian.
it's a shame supernaut superfuzz isn't around anymore as she knew quite a lot of good serbian stuff.

My favourite is definitely Egon Bondy's Happy Hearts Club Band - that's a great choice.
Muž bez Uží actually stands for Man with no Ears.

Man With No Ears is a re-issue of live recordings. Thanks, I didn't know that Muz Bez Uzi meant that.

MellySingsDoom 10.12.2007 06:22 AM

Egon Bondy gets my vote as well - a very good album.

_slavo_ 10.12.2007 06:34 AM

It's cool that this band gets the international recognition that it deserves - even years after their highlights have been issued.

I came across some old copies of the NME in the 80's that had reviews of their records as well as articles about Diamanda Galas etc. The times have changed.

_slavo_ 10.12.2007 07:14 AM

Oh really? I wonder how the world had gone to know them in the 80s, when they were so badly persecuted in Czechoslovakia.
