Please explain your choice of "Knocked Up." I find it hard to believe even single-celled organisms tolerated that film, much less you, atari.

And, am I mistaken on "Pan's Labyrinth" being 2007? I'm surprised that didn't make anyone's list, I really enjoyed that. I'm definitely going to see "The Orphanage."

Savage Clone 01.22.2008 07:06 PM

I almost saw The Orphanage last weekend. Opted for a party that turned out to be lame.
I'm an idiot.

It was worth it for the 5 minutes of Paul Rudd.

batreleaser 01.23.2008 01:05 AM

Like Crumb's reminds, that one was released in '06.

Sherrybaby, which was mentioned earlier, was also.

Cantankerous 01.23.2008 01:46 AM

I really like your list, I saw most of them. I refused to go see Lars and the Real Girl, just because the story revolves around a guy(Ryan Gosling) to fall in love with a doll. I just find that silly in a movie.

atari 2600 01.23.2008 01:53 AM

Yeah, it's even a bit silly in River's Edge hahah. As improbable as it may seem, it's really a pretty good movie. I had the same feeling as you expressed, but Gosling's excellent performance in Half Nelson (my #2) from last year made me want to check it out. Like some of them on the list, I didn't see it in the theater, but at the computer, which isn't the preferred method.

!@#$%! 01.23.2008 01:55 AM

i missed this one. was packed at sundance.

but saw this one. was brilliant. didn't get much distro in the u.s.-- has high literacy requirements

this was a lovely movie, funny as fuck, not a masterpiece, but funny, horny, and fun. the trailer doesn't do it justice.
