I know 2 of the Scrawl , the indie american band and another one who are german and play some sort of grind-flamenco-easy-listening ( I'm not kidding )

Inhuman 11.02.2007 11:14 PM

There were two bands called 'Dinosaur'; ask King Buzzo about that though.

RAEIN. They were such a great emo band. But some local band named themselves Raein, and I saw it on the show listings and got excited, then found out it was a different band.

also, mogwai, and i'm pretty sure there's an electronic band called moguai (same pronunciation) they might be australian too, not sure.

Slightly off topic, but I absolutely hate when people (the British press are the guiltiest) call Sonic Youth "the sonics" for short. Even though both bands are great and the latter influenced the former, it's like they don't even know the '60 garage gods existed!

I've actually run into this problem with my own group Dead Air Fresheners and people calling us DAF for short. There is a classic group called DAF and we don't wish to dis them by stealing their initials!

Seemingly there are more bands that are called Necronomicon, besides the 70s German one.

PAULYBEE2656 11.03.2007 08:35 AM

GravitySlips 11.03.2007 10:02 AM

I think you're right, they're probably called "the ruins".

there's a bunch of bands called "Ghost". again, the japanese one is the best in my eyes.

also, i know two bands called DNA...the no wave band, and also a trance group.

Gulasch Noir 11.03.2007 10:31 AM

also, more than one "The Jam" or "Jam" ... the other "The Jam"/"Jam" is a 60s garage rock band

pokkeherrie 11.03.2007 11:11 AM

The most hilarious one to me is Japanese Boris vs. Dutch Boris (winner of Pop Idols TV show). I even had to save king_buzzo once from accidentally going to the second one.

there are two pagoda bands

atsonicpark 11.03.2007 12:06 PM

wata is so hot. jesus.

anyway, there seems to be a lot of overlapping in death metal/gore grind/etc. lots of bands with VERY similiar names, such as "necrophagia" and "necrophagist"..

pokkeherrie 11.03.2007 12:19 PM

I've been told that there are two bands called Faust nowadays... although they're both different incarnations of what once was the same legendary band we all know.

In the same way there are now two different groups called Master Musicians of Jajouka, using different spelling. I think they're using "Jajouka" and "Joujouka", but don't pin me down on that.

Ha! Good call. I'm sure that Kingo isn't the only one to have that happen to him.
Imagine it happening the other way around. :D

There's also a French Boris (doing disco or techno - I don't remember but anyway it's crap).

kinda what happened to christian death, they have to clarify which recordings are with rozz williams and which aren't.

and your name kinda reminds me, besides the japanese, angelino and aussie x's, there's the ex who are phonetically alike.

tell me about it, there's nuclear assault and nuclear death, there's a band called diabolic and another called diabolical; i'm even confused by immolation and incantation, i get them mixed up.

there's also a band from spain called tape and a dutch band (i think) called .tape

strictlycommercial 11.03.2007 03:06 PM

The Go Team and The Go! Team. Thought the oddly placed exclamation mark was just them being cute.

Dead-Air 11.03.2007 06:08 PM

Of course there's also the band Courtney Love, featuring Lois Maffeo and Pat Maley, that named themselves after the person in contempt of her brief stay in Olympia.
