blablabla, everyneurotic has done this kind of shit in hiphop threads before, don't know what his problem is, but as far as bragging about artists to show how cool we are, i'm calling hypocrisy on that, wait till someone starts a metal thread and watch him reel out a list of about 2 zillion bands. how about this, if hiphop bothers you so much, why don't you ignore any threads about it? |
i like hip hop.

no I haven't! but holy shit, I WILL. thanks! |
This is an old topic but yeah I'm into it.

Yeah I like some hip hop but this topic is kind of stupid. Like if someone made a "who likes rock?" thread. Could we maybe make these threads less general, please?

omg I h8 gangsta rap. It's all about bichez and hoez. You have to listen to good rap. Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, Busdriver, Del, etc...
Not that I dislike any of the above listed, but I can certainly conclude that I do enjoy most Eminem, 50, or Game songs more. I used to only be into what could be portrayed as 'indie' rap, but after listening to a plethora of hip hop, daily visits to SOHH, Cocaine Blunts, Allhiphop, grounduphiphop, and started learning about the beatmakers, I realized how many of the well known artists are amazing. Gangsters. Bitchez. Hoez. I'm a rich white kid living in a riverside house, and I most certainly can't relate to the lyrics, but I accept them because I don't have a second of experience living life in the streets and on welfare. One of my favorite hip hop songs now: You Don't Know Oh, I'm seeing Talib Kweli soon too. He has great lyrics |

yeah, it annoys me when people talk about the violence etc in hiphop but then at the same time they probably love gangster films, and have secret daydreams about being michael corleone, or whoever. |
I like some 'old skool' hip-hop but besides that I don't really know much about the genre I never bothered to check it out...
Recommondations are welcome. |

just because i questioned why someone thought about separating their recent listening in hip hop to their overall listenings in different threads doesn't really make me have a problem with it. i have contributed to hip hop threads before, sure i don't know as much as other people about the genre here, but when i can i put my two cents. just thought it was a stupid question, like pbradley said. and well, yeah, i've been listening to metal more than anything else throughout my life so i tend to know a bit more about it, when people ask about recommendations, i do list a bunch of bands, you did the same for at least two hip hop threads in the past, i thought that was why people asked for recommendations? anyway, you've had a problem with me for so long, i don't know why and don't really care about it, whatever man. |

Yeah that's a good point. It reminds me of how there was controversy over a poster of 50 cent holding a gun, and how it 'promoted gun violence' when at the same time the latest James Bond movie was released and it was acceptable for Bond to be holding a gun in the poster. |
i like hip hop for lots of reasons one of which is that it pisses people off so much. its like punk when it first happened and i like the fact that people seem to feel so threatened by it.

BUSDRIVER.

i love rap music (i don't make that lame distinction between hip-hop and rap. it's all the same). i actually prefer a lot of late 80's/early 90's and popular radio shit to the indie garbage. the indie rappers usually have no flow, cliche lyrics that i can't relate to, and lackluster production.
simply put, i'm a sucker for a club banger. |
