as many know, the cure is the "seminal" band of which i have always hated. ive lsitened to this, disintegration, and buncha others but have never liked anything. it makes me laugh when people compare them to the smiths cuz i just dont see it at all.

and where are the throbbing gristle influences?

SuperCreep 04.11.2008 05:21 PM

Anyone comparing The Cure to The Smiths is either lazy or don't know what the hell they're talking about.

I suppose I can see a minor Throbbing Gristle influence in regard to the overall mood of the album, but Pornography is leagues more accessible than anything TG have ever done. There's no comparison at all musically.

Seventeen Seconds > all other Cure

Pornography is my favourite Cure album, though Seventeen Seconds is also really good.

Seventeen seconds is good but in my opinion Faith, Pornography and Disintegration are better.

The Cure and The Smiths' music are indeed different, The Smiths were more influenced by folk / folk-rock like Bert Jansch or the Byrds while The Cure were more into Bowie or Hendrix.

The Smiths are more ironic but still there's some similarity in the romanticism (that would be the common point I see).

I'll specify that by the way Robert Smith and Morrissey really can't stand each other :D (but that won't prevent me from loving both bands).

Trilogy has a great live versions of the albums as well.

Just as long as you close your eyes and don't watch Fat Bob.

i think that i prefer disintegration these days. it just has more feel to it and makes you feel all warm inside.

Their best, better than the rest, better than anyone.
