I think Carrie realized the emptiness of celebrity and the one dimensionality of Wild Flag and Corin got a taste for touring again now that her kids are older.

Well, I haven't paid much attention to any news of rumors from the S-K camp lately. I saw the show and had a blast, bought the album and gave it a few spins, and then I pretty much said "ok, moving on then."

... But now I'm curious so I'll ask you: does the band plan to continue as they once did, in a Godspeed or Dino Jr way? Or was this a one time deal like m b v (probably) was?

I imagine if carrie and janet are down corin is down. The band only broke up because corin wanted a break to take care of her kids. Now that the kids are older she has went on three tours, four including the recent SK tour, so i would imagine more in the works. In the 8 year hiatus literally ALL of them basically toured continuously so its clear they enjoy it still. If SK doesn't do it again you can be sure Corin Tucker Band and Quasi will. Though it actually lookd like Carrie is the one who needs SK more cuz Corin and Janet have options.

Wait.. YOU DIDN'T LIKE NO CITIES TO LOVE?? Its one of the few records in past few years that i really really like

I have nearly no time for shows anymore ... but I really loved Einsturzende Neubaten this summer. This one will stay with me for long.

I didn't say that. I did like it! I liked it. That's all. I thought, "this is cool". I did not think, "this is amazing" and I did not feel compelled to listen again and again like I did when Syro broke Aphex Twin's silence.

I thought it was good and solid, but there have been plenty of albums in the past few years that I liked more. I didn't really feel that a S-K reunion was necessary at any point, but I am glad it happened because I got to see them again and got to listen to some new material.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 09.07.2015 04:30 PM

I thought the hype surrounding the reunion was unwarranted but the tour was very much inevitable as all the members were touring actively and the band never broke up over bad blood just logistics. As to the record.. on first listens i didn't think it "great" but after it grew on me yes, its sneaking into my rotation in ways too many records of past few years haven't

no they've just been playing some one-off shows around melbourne lately, last one was a performance with a local dance company which was 50% new stuff and sounding great, maybe a bit more languorous than the psychic 9-5 stuff but more 'present' I guess. their show's changed a lot though, back when work came out it was very oppressive, very noisy, whereas their recent shows are a wall of bass underpinning flowing melodics. really really great.

Gonna go see Subhumans next Thursday so ill definitely have to revise my list

Phlegmscope 11.04.2015 07:21 PM

I don't go to that many shows these days but the majority of the gigs I've seen this year I've enjoyed.
Not in any particular order, but the first six were all fucking brilliant and my absolute favourites:

Throat
Baxter Stockman
Hebosagil
Eyehategod
The Ex
Mette Rasmussen / Chris Corsano -duo
High on Fire
Dark Buddha Rising
Merzbow
Pekko Käppi
Hopeajärvi
Frogskin
Fuck-Ushima
Morbid Evils
Umpio
Fate vs. Free Willy
Grateful Dad
Garden of Worm

Subhumans last thursday just usurped all the way to Number 2 on my list and only the Dead can possibly defeat it

Phlegmscope 12.02.2015 07:40 PM

Adding Circle to my list. Saw them about a week ago and it was brilliant and hilarious heavy metal lunacy once again.
The supporting group teksti-tv 666 would probably deserve a place on my list as well. The kind of guitar (four guitars, in their case) driven kraut-punk-garage-rock that works best in a live setting.

That's it for this years gigs I suppose.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 12.02.2015 09:55 PM

Gonna go see the Dead on New Years Eve here in LA.. possibly will top my list.
