going to be getting this for sure

noisereductions 03.08.2008 02:55 PM

Bonus tracks would've been nice, yes. But I'm just pleased it was reissued. That was definitely something the band thought of for we hardcore fans.

CHOUT 03.08.2008 02:59 PM

bonus track heaven= the whole radio broadcast from 'under the influence of the jesus and mary chain' i wanna hear that so bad!

Protectmeyou 03.08.2008 03:51 PM

I wonder if vinyl will follow....

noisereductions 03.08.2008 04:20 PM

I still wonder if the 9 tracks was a mastering error or something. Because the announcement listed it as 8.

Moshe 03.09.2008 02:29 AM

Just ordered my copy. Hope it won't take too long.

noisereductions 03.10.2008 11:02 AM

I got mine in like 4 days.

If anyone's wondering, track 3 = "Under the Influence..." and then the rest of the tracklisting is as they had it listed.

EvdWee 03.11.2008 07:46 PM

viewtiful_alan 03.13.2008 04:49 PM

I'm a pretty big fan, and I've only listened to it once.. but I was kind of dissapointed.
Too many song fragments. It just didn't feel like it was actually worth paying for.

tasteinmen 03.13.2008 08:27 PM

is it worth getting on this new CD remastered edition? or should I go to the vinyl shop in Manchester and buy the old vinyl for £10? how long is the album and is it any good?

very short and incredibly awesome.

this and the whitey album are what turned me into a hard core youth fan. after seeing them one summer at the cbgb. WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT!!! the marquis said "playing tonite: drunken butterfly"

...not being a fan, and the album having just come out, didn't catch the reference. i said... "sure, why the hell not? might be a cool band...." 15 minutes later my friends and i were asking ourselves "why have we never heard of Drunken Butterfly?? this shit FUCKING RAWKS!!!"

we left the club to meet up with some other people who were over at the limelight... but the line there was around the block, so we went back to cbgb... there was a crowd in the street out front. as we got closer someone asked us, "did you guys see sonic youth? i heard they were playing here."

i said something like, "no... but we saw the opening band... drunken butterfly or something?" the guy looked at us and said. "that was sonic youth you idiot!!

true story.

m1rr0r dash 03.14.2008 12:36 AM

is it worth getting the remastered CD?

...i do kind of question the need to remaster a song like "ringo: he's on fire." or "shit is funky fresh."

that being said, i will probably get myself a copy.

The M=Dik 12" is a historic SY release. Just try to put it in context. It was originally released as an audacious and free transitional move between Sister And Daydream via the Whitey Album and beyond. I will never forget when my needle hit the virgin vinyl back in '87? and the b-side emerged in all of it's collaged beauty. It was a seminal moment as it made me realise that anything is possible, you just have to follow your imagination and trust yourself. This is what SY have done for me... and that is why I still listen to them now.

...also it manages to straddle the line between light hearted brevity and pure sonic invention, which is something I had not heard before nor come to think of it since.

Dig it!.

noisereductions 03.14.2008 07:44 AM

Agree with Toxic... sure it can be silly and obnoxious at moments, but it is a very important release in the historical sense of the discography. It is an important piece of the Sonic puzzle, really. "Master-Dik" itself is certainly silly, but there's a genuine undertone of historical context (IE: living in NY and hearing the blossoming of hip hop such as Run-DMC vs punk rock like, uh duh, track 2... The Ramones). Flip it over and you've got the seedlings for not only DDN's polar opposite in THE WHITEY ALBUM, but maybe the DNA for the SYR's which would oneday emerge. In short, it's a record that deserves to be in yr SY collection if not strictly for its musical contributions than at least so that you may ponder its intentions.

Its not that good. Period. A curio
