Who wasn't cooler? The VU has to be the most overrated band of all time. |
shush you

Off the top of my head, I'd say the essential VU boots are the Guitar Amp tape, both nights at End Cole Ave, Columbus '66 (top of this page) & the Gymnasium tape.
They're all on the VU torrent site linked a couple of pages back, and lossy versions should only be a quick Google away. |
i just got the richie uter...(something or other) book White Light/White Heat, im burning though it, very detailed and interesting, it makes me wanna listen vu really badly

I dunno, that's only really because of the surfeit of '69 tapes in comparison to other eras. They did only exist for 5 years after all, and there's clear progression from the early PSAS demos, through Columbus '66, Gymnasium '67, any/all of the '69 stuff and finally the Max's tapes. The only era that isn't really documented is late '67/early '68 while Cale was still there. |
today is a VU day.

every day's a VU day

A review's been posted at Art Forum's blog (http://www.artforum.com/diary) for the recent New York Public Library discussion panel with Lou Reed, Moe Tucker and Doug Yule. The event accompanies the new book, The Velvet Underground: New York Art.

yeah ive heard countless bootlegs throughout the years and very little of it comes close to touching the core records. still favorite band ever though. only listen to van morrison more, im going soft as fuck. i tried listening to the grey wolves earlier today and its just not where my head is at right now. ive lost all my youthful nihilism, and im only 22.

don't know if this was already posted, but this is a pretty sweet interview. Moe gets a lot of praise and its great to see those 3 together, wish john cale was there, i believe he was the true magic to that band.

I am new on this site, as a big Velvets fan i just wanted to say thanks!
This thread has also got me thinking, when i first bought Bad Moon Rising when it was released I thought with SY I had found the Velvets of my generation. For me during the period between BMR and Sister, SY had a similar musical development. Looking back SY didnt have the rigour or intensity of the VU, but they lasted a lot longer which is great thing in relation to their amazing musical rebirth since 1998. Maybe not a popular opinion but SY were for me far less interesting in the 90's. I really began to love them again when I heard Thousand Leaves up until now. I also realised that SY is the only band where i bought every record they released since 25 years, i should get a prize :) My first post LOL! (heads to the fridge to get another beer)................ |
