Whoah, whoah... what? How? In what ways are they similar? Not trying to be a dick, just... wow. Unexpected.

Yes, there's a cultural connection, and both albums are products of a similar era, but do you really think Lemonade's concept has anything to do with TPAB's? Moreover, do you really think Beyoncé needs to ride anyone's coattails?

You should look back to when this album first dropped, and how geeked we were about it, the both of us. I haven't listened to it in a while, but "All Night" is still one of my favorite songs of the year, and I think the album as a whole is extremely good... though I could still do without Jack White Zepping out on the thing. His contributions to the Tribe album were much more palatable.

Solange's album is humble but better in every way.

I agree. It's more sonically diverse and more intricate and interesting. But it's also less populace-friendly and had a much smaller impact on music and culture. If music was just about music, the world would see that Solange's album is better. But it's not just music, it's spectacle.

On the bright side, at least they didn't give it to Drake. Lol. He'll probably win another Grammy though.

Can't believe they didn't include Nicolas Jaar's SIRENS. Fuckwits.

I'm not talking about the actual music and content of the album. I'm talking about the way it was marketed, as an album that supports the whole Black Lives Matter movement. That wouldn't've happened without Black Messiah and TPAB paving the way..

Bey's team have spent the last few years trying to improve her image as an artist so she can be taken more seriously. And it works for them.

True.

It is sad that people have to re-iterate that Black lives matter.

It is sad that idiots think affirming the humanity of a black life somehow diminishes the humanity of their perceived race's life.

It is sad that pigs treat non-whites like trash.

It is sad that black pigs have to follow along and pretend they are cool with it all to keep their jobs.

The new Tribe is DOPE. Love it.

Hey Rob! Where have you been? ;)

(Get it? 'Cause you've been kind of weird and a bit insufferable lately and this post is nice and smart and makes sense?)

Sorry. Just busting your balls. Not trying to be an actual prick.
You are SO right about the new Tribe. It is just fucking awesome. Weirdly, the Rolling Stone piece in their AOTY article said it didn't sound anything like classic Tribe, but I disagree. I think it sounds totally Tribe-like, just not in a nostalgic or a resting-on-laurels kind of way.

Rob Instigator 11.29.2016 03:24 PM

when I hear of an old group getting together to make a new album I want to hear what sounds like a logical progression from what they used to create.

Tribe did that, and it took a LOT of work. I hate when reunions create a boring album full of what sound like toss-offs and unreleased B-sides of their work from decades before (Pixies???? looking your way, fat francis!)

So Kanye West is definitely in a psych ward somewhere. I guess his doctor told TMZ (barf!) that he was suffering from a "temporary psychosis" due to lack of sleep and nutrition.

That means he's not just "hospitalized for exhaustion," (that's not actually a thing... not a thing people spend a week in the hospital for anyway), but most likely under someone else's orders — doctor, family member — to be where he is, so we can safely assume he's getting a lot of Valium and maybe Thorazine.

There are some downright mean little "meme wisdom" accusations being thrown around on social media. One of them shows a pic of Kanye and a pic of Lemmy from Motörhead and says something like "so 39 year old kanye west canceled his tour after quitting a show after four songs and checked himself into the hospital, while Lemmy battled brain tumours and (other stuff) and (other stuff) and still played until his last show at age 70. Who's the 'greatest artist alive?'"

Fuck that shit. It doesn't even make any sense. It's not even an analagous situation. Also, by that logic everyone who has ever ended or even PAUSED their recoerding/touring activity before DEATH is somehow not doing right by the world. You can throw the Beatles, Kurt Cobain, Kate Bush, Michael Jackson, Prince, and even fucking Lemmy into that pile if that's the line of reasoning your using.

People are also shouting "cocaine! Meth!" which is equally absurd as there is no evidence of this. It's insulting to anyone struggling with a mental health issue, and it also makes no sense in the context of the pop culture argument (Lemmy used shit tons of speed, and he's apparently the golden standard.)

I urge you to call out any friends you have who may be posting bullsht like this and to alert them to the implications of their "argument" while also encouraging everyone you know to STOP. USING. MEMES. as they represent the death of knowledge, and they are chief dissemination device of dipshit asswad morons.

For what it's worth, I saw Kanye not not two months ago and he carried a 2-hour show by himself with no opening act and nobody else on stage. Everyone is getting their money back for the cancelled shows.

Chance just cancelled a tour too, but nobody's calling him a bitch about it.

I fucking hate people.

I totally agree. G!BE did the same thing, only the result was way better than with the Pixies. Their last two albums were just fine — especially the first — but they both sounded like B-sides from Lift Yr Skinny Fists... which is not bad, but, y'know, we already have that album, so who the fuck needs more of the same?

As I've said, Tribe is now up there with Portishead on the "return" album hierarchy. P-head's Third is still the best reunion/extended hiatus-ending album ... ever, I think. But Tribe has done it, and it's fucking glorious.

Rob Instigator 11.29.2016 03:31 PM

honestly, I hope Kanye gets better.

There are ussually two likely reasons for agents and handlers to describe a star's hospitalization as being the result of "exhaustion/dehydration"
1. drug abuse, and rehab is needed without the stigma of the drug use getting out
2. plastic surgery, hair pulgs etc. which are gotten and recovered from while the star appears to be hospitalized for something else. They will then ask for "privacy" and the star will recuperate at home without media bothering them. Joe Buck did this as he was addicted to hair-plug surgery. he actually did it so much he gave himself a near-fatal viral infection. horrible. Lost of Hollywood stars do this trick to hide their surgery and recovery.

There is also a "fanciful" reason for stars who are "hospitalized" for exhaustion/dehydration...
1. MKUltra reprogramming. According to a lot of the "literature" on this subject, both the Kardashian's dad (the attorney who quit on OJ during trial because OJ was obviously involved in the murder of his ex and her lover, and died of "cancer" shortly after), and Kim herself are rumopred to be MKUltra trained. The Kardashains are supposedly trained as Beta Kittens, sex slaves with compartmentalized memories allowing them to be used as super secret couriers and sex slaves. Th rumor-mill is that Kanye has been too "free" with his mind and thoughts and it was necessary for him to be re-programmed.

we shall see how it all shakes out. Honestly though, I hope he is OK.

Rob Instigator 11.29.2016 03:35 PM

Chance cancelled a tour because no one gave a fuck? hahahahhaha

It makes me laugh that the main thread of "problems with me" is Chance complaining about a label trying to keep him down. hahahahah 1st world problems. senator's son problems....

Rob Instigator 11.29.2016 03:37 PM

BTW, people with mental illnesses/childhood abuse and trauma are EXACTLY the type that are picked early on to suffer MKultra programming.

Hmm..

Well, I've spent a lot of my life studying this kind of thing, and I'm not saying I'm an expert, but there's definitely stuff you're not accounting for. You're probably not accounting for it because you're not aware of it, as a non-fan, but...

People who are on psychiatric medications, whether warranted by a genuine diagnosis are more likely to be hospitalized at some point. Just being on SSRIs or benzodiazepines or antipsychotics puts an individual at a higher risk of experiencing symptoms associated with psychiatric disorders.

Kanye's on Anti-depressants, by his own admission, and possibly Xanax and other meds, possibly for BPD.

My stepfather has bi-polar. He finds himself in the hospital once every few years just for medication evaluations and adjustments. Being on improperly calculated doses of seratonin manipulating drugs can cause "seratonin syndrome" which can be debilitating. And people with BPD or severe mental health issues often have narcolepsy and/or insomnia either as a result of their condition or the medications they take for it.

In other words, there's a very real possibility he is experiencing exactly what the doctor described. Happens to people every day.

But yeah, calling it exhaustion is not really legit. Though in fairness, the doc did not say that. The doc said "temporary psychosis" which doesn't have a very PR-friendly ring to it.

you missed the point he was trying to make by miles while going about yr family history and such. bi-poplar is real. you might be suffering from it Sev considering yr taste in hip hop sometimes.

im glad im free range here as a drunk to say whatever but, some of you motherfuckers are straight up bi.

pepper_green 11.29.2016 10:28 PM

I think Kanye is in the hospital because he realized how much he's been an idiot and it devastated his ego. lack of sleep and dehydration are symptoms of megalomania.

that last rant he gave is retardo ADD too the extreme. he's paranoid about some n w o jay z radio thing that's been built into his mind because of his own ego raps. Kanye is an ignorant idiot to the extreme. not only that, he's married to a fucking kardashian for thinking with his fucking dick for a gypsy bitch that wasn't really the porn star he thought she was. his beautiful dark fantasy has come true....a lie. he would have been better off with some dick suck off hood rat or some gold digging white women.

louder 11.29.2016 11:08 PM

Wait.. Kanye is an MKUltra slave? Kim is a gypsy? What is going on here?

pepper_green 11.29.2016 11:10 PM

^^you got me man.

im just drunk and going along with it all. I haven't a clue about nothing. having a good time. I listen to Thin Lizzy for god's sake. the floor is on the ceiling for me

Severian 11.29.2016 11:27 PM

EDIT: I think you're trying to be insulting, Rob. I didn't read that crazy MKultra shit carefully enough the first go around. Then I did, and now I feel like you're trolling.
I guess fuck you if that's the case. (???)

Pepper_green, fuck you too. Also, *stepfather* ... not family history. Why am I even bothering? We all know you just say nonsense.

You guys are being dicks. Do I need to call someone fat or string a bunch of drunken words together for that to hit home with you, or do you think y'all are good? DICKS. And for what?
