Lucky Star>all other Madonna songs.
|
Oh shit really? Damn I'll have to keep an eye out for that, especially on vinyl.
And here is some Mojave 3 for anyone interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZaX3HJJrz4 |
^^yeah, lucky star is another great one.
i really like that period for madonna generally, although it's really only that period between the 'erotica' and 'ray of light' albums, when she was putting out rubbish like Bedtime Stories and the Evita stuff where I think she properly lost the plot. Confessions on a Dancefloor is a brilliant album i think, and 'get together' is one of my top five Madonna songs of all time. |
Yeah for me I kinda lost interest in her around the time of "Vogue" actually. Her first three albums= yum. There are some filler tracks, esp. on True Blue, but Open Your Heart, Live to Tell, etc. are fantastic.
|
yeah i tend to agree about vogue. i wasn't that big a fan of the erotica album and really haven't been since confessions on a dancefloor, but she was still interesting around the erotica thing, at least compared with when she started trying her hand at being elaine paige.
|
i like erotica the best, i'm not much of a madonna fan though
|
i suppose its when you're first really exposed to her. the erotica period was when she started to get quite boring but remembering when she first hit the scene, so to speak, with those first few singles, she really was something else.
She sort of came along at the exact point where i really started getting quite seriously into pop music. to be honest, my real interest in SY was properly cemented when they did the Into the Groovy EP. I liked them prior to that, but when they did that record (and it obviously wasn't just some indie piss-take) I became really intrigued. certainly that was what separated them for me from bands like swans, who clearly would've never attempted such a thing - at least not in that spirit. It's weird talking now about pop stars having this massive effect when the media today makes it so that everyone is sort of 'big' but noone is absolutely massive. Madonna and Michael Jackson in the 80s, it's hard to comprehend just how huge they were. |
^ You nailed it.

My band used to cover Act of Contrition "This is a Madonna song, so if you want to dance...."

Thanks for that. It's the first time I've heard it covered by someone else. Still waiting for your version of it, by the way. Also, those Saint Vitus clips made me wonder why I've never checked them out before. |
Those were the days...

you need to be careful with Saint Vitus albums. some of them are really atrocious. I'd recommend the compilation 'Heavier than Thou', although even with that you do have to wade through some dodginess. |

thanks
even though i despise pavement. it's the thought that counts. |
how/why do u despise pavement? i mean, i know they are no abba, or stones, or dylan. and haircuts prob their worst song, but despise? really?

Oh WOW! I haven't listened that in ages. Genuinely one of my favourite songs ever. One for the 'perfect song' thread for sure. "You had yellow hair, did you see me?" - amazing! would rep for sure if i could |
