Unless I'm forgetting someone or something, those are the producers that either directly made or shaped my what I love about hip-hop.

Dilla, Ye and RZA for sure. And then maybe Just Blaze for me. Or Q-Tip. Gah. This is tough.

But that leads me to another question: What about No ID? Eh? No ID has had such a massive influence on hip-hop, even though it's been mostly behind the scenes and unheralded. I mean, he's Kanye's mentor. He worked on Resurrection, TPAB, Blueprint 3, and more and more. Isn't he often called the "king of Chicago hip-hop?" Seems like he belongs.

Dion is a legend but not like, the absolute best.. it's like Batman and Ra's al Ghul. Ha.

That was dope!

So Remy Ma just dropped ANOTHER Nicki diss.. and it's trash. Should've known when to quit. Now she's looking desperate and weird.

I like your analogy. I like very much.

Oh shit, I didn't know Roc Marciano had a new album out.

By the way, I was just happy that someone put arrogant Nicki in her place.. "queen of rap" my ass. All of her albums are trash, and her only hits are either pop/EDM or assisted by other rappers (usually Drake and/or Wayne). How can you brag about sales when you don't even have a solo rap hit record?

louder 03.03.2017 12:14 PM

It's starting to get difficult for me to keep up with new albums. I feel like I have to force myself to hear them and that feeling sucks.

Yeah man.

I mean... I'm not sure she was out in her place. I'm pretty sure she just thinks she's awesome, and this will only make her think that harder and more publicly. But yeah, she's a disappointment. Her career began and ended with her "Monster" verse as far as I'm concerned.

Welcome to my world when I'm not working or freaking out about politics. Music is more to me than I even realize, and I know it's very important to me. But it often feels like a bit of a chore to stay current. And I'm not into wasting time on albums just because they're what's available, when I don't derive any true or lasting pleasure from hearing them.

It's depressing for sure. But music in general is on the rebound right now so things are slow. It will pick up again, at some point, and it will be a pleasure to hear new shit.

There are a few non-hip-hop artists I've been meaning to listen to. I've heard good things about Vagabon. But the fact that Pitchfork seems to have some kind of contract with her is disheartening. Makes me want to avoid it.

Everything pretty much eats shit right now. Except for this new Blanck Mass album, which is amazing, but isn't exactly filling me with joy (it's intense and punishing). Still..

Here's a question out of nowhere....

Whose verse on "Forever" do you think is best?

remember "forever?"

I aks because I recently played "Role Model" for nostalgia (that's a good beat even though I hate Em), and I mentioned to my girlfriend that Em did a track with Kanye and Drake and Wayne, and she hadn't heard it. I played a bit of it and she said Eminem had the best verse.

Y'all know how I love Kanye, but I've always thought Wayne ran that track. Eminem got the cushy spot ... the "Jay Z at the end of 'Diamonds'" spot. And he rapped fastest. But I think the track goes to Weezy. Back when he was still a viable artist and had some energy.

Dumb question, but there's fuckall else to talk about, so... what do ya think?

What's the opinion on Swet Shop Boys? Found their 2016 album at a library today. Listened to a few snippets. Das Racist dude is in there. Seems interesting, at least in concept. Cool album cover too.

I believe that Eminem having the best verse is the general public opinion, however his verse was just a bunch of nonsense. It marked the beginning of his annoying choppy flow thing though.

Wayne had the best verse, followed by Ye.

Mediocre song that hasn't aged well.

Best verse on Forever is... thats a tough one. But i think weezy.

So Kodak Black is a rapist.. :( are we still going to support him?

I don't even know who that is.

I don't know about "we," but I'm not. Fuck that. Fuck that asshole. No. People don't get to rape people and still get money from me, unless its tax dollars for incarceration.

Fuck Kodak Black.

Yeah, Eminem got the scene stealing verse, and while it may have the most bars, it lacks originality and charisma. Ye's verse isn't one of his best, but it still just drips with Yeeziness. Sounds a bit phoned-in, a bit lazy for him, especially for the time, but still has more personality than Em and Drake combined.

Same with Wayne. His verse has even more raw Wayne personality, which in Wayne's World was a great thing. Problem is Wayne is a fairly one dimensional lyricist and rapper at best. His personality on record is therefore pretty one dimensional. Not the case with Kanye, whose multi-dimensionality might be the reason he's been so great for so long.

Probably one of Drake's better verses honestly, but still WEAK. And I hate that chorus. "Understand nothing was done for me," ... bullshit. Bitch.

Yeah if he gets charged then I'll be pretty much done with him. He's got a top 10 Billboard hit with Tunnel Vision now though.

Well, it sounds like he is being charged (state of South Carolina is the plaintiff, charges are filed). But I guess if he hasn't been formally convicted then we should refrain from calling him a "rapist." Alleged rapist, for now.

But still... it's extremely unsettling.

And just a few weeks after Chief Keef was arrested for fucking home invasion. Funny that people think Kanye is the worst guy alive because he says dumb shit, or punches a guy who called his wife a "nigger-lover."
