subtitles, then? I didn't note any issues with it. Good movie, chilling, love the Euro weird stuff reminds me of C. Freger's photos

Going to see the Gentlemen today, looking forward to a return to form from Ritchie!

Saw the preview for Color Out of Space, looks pretty bad, it's one of my absolutely favorite Lovecraft stories, and it looks as if the "updated version" the faux weirdness and the inclusion of Nicholas Cage won't do much for it. It does, however feature a Colin Stetson soundtrack, so that could possible save it somewhat.....will at least TRY to watch it

Well, not all of his movies are lame! This one is actually pretty good

It still ain't no James Bond or Rambo, but a nice melange. Didn't recognize Pierce Brosnan at all, only saw on the end credits that he's the other lead actor.

Jackie Chan's post-Hong Kong films are mostly lame.

and of course i had to see this afterwards

it’s not as terrible as i was expecting. i mean, it’s pretty much like a short form telenovela. it’s a bad plot (the story idea is okay more or less), the characters make no sense, the acting gets ridiculous, the dialogue is terrible... but i’ve seen worse. it does get funny at the end...

The last movie I watched is Joker! This is one of the few films that really impressed me very much!

1917

I really enjoyed it. A lot. My only critique is that the camera work is almost too clever for its own good, in the fact that watching for when/where all the actual edits might have been took me out of the immersion a bit, here and there.

It also took me about 15 minutes or so to realize I was watching the actor who played King Tommen in the later GOT seasons. Quite interested to see what becomes of him and his soldier pal from this in the future. I thought they both showed great promise as actors. Ones to watch for sure.

Last night, after watching some trash on TV, wife and I ran accross this film. on Netflix and gave it a go. I am a huge Welles fanatic, and have recently been enjoying his early movies. 3rd Man was fucking awesome.

This one? It may be even better. Directed by Welles, and with an awesome and subtle performance by Edward G. Robinson (look here, see?).

Awesome portrait of what it is like to be fooled by a psychopath...

h8kurdt 02.05.2020 12:44 PM

Edward G. Robinson is just great in anything I've ever seen him in. He has a face that just doesn't exist anymore. One that if you see it in a picture you'd automatically put it to that period.

Wait, so you watched the movie *about* this movie before watching the movie itself?

I’ve been told not to watch Disaster Artist until I watch The Room — cuz I won’t get the jokes or whatever. I’ve seen plenty of The Room, just in bits and pieces, and I don’t think I could make it all the way through the thing, but I want to see the Disaster Artist. But apparently that’s a hard no, at least in my friends’ eyes.

Anyway.

!@#$%! 02.09.2020 11:00 AM

it’s nothing really that far out or anything. your friends are making mountains out of molehills.

people like to do that sometimes to feel they’re in the know or something?

yes, the room is a bad movie. not “so bad it’s good.” it’s just bad. like so much bad art.

but if you’ve ever spent any time in front of a soap opera you’ve basically got it.

also—early van damme? lol.

for the disaster artist you don’t need the source movie as context.

other contexts can be maybe if you’re vaguely familiar with low rent film productions, diy filmmakers, that kind of scene. or maybe if you remember slc punk. or maybe if you’ve ever had strange friends. i don’t know. many points of entry.

“the disaster artist” is worth watching—it’s an interesting story. “the room” is just optional—it’s just a bad diy movie.

just like “ed wood” is better than any of ed wood’s actual crap.

but if you MUST: we found it on youtube. maybe it’s still there. seemed to just been missing the ass.
