I normally don't post my shit up here, but this one is kind of special given today's date. So here goes! I'm also curious of your opinions, when I saw the videos (check the youtube channel) I was very impressed. But live it didn't give me that same feeling. Listening to this recording though, they do sound quite similar again to me at least.

EKKO does Joy Division

UTRECHT - EKKO pulls out on Friday, May 17 with an evening around the influential post-punk band Joy Division.

During the program, the cover band Joy Division Undercover performs and the visitor can enjoy the, never before seen in the Netherlands, documentary 'Joy Division' by director Grant Gee. Finally the Utrecht band April treats the visitor with a DJ set from the best new wave has to offer.

Joy Division Undercover
The seed for cover band Joy Division Undercover was already planted in 2008, when the Utrecht singer-songwriter Erny Green along with Gerald Roerdink Veldboom founded the Joy Division tribute band 'Closer To Curtis'. The band toured at the time along the Dutch club circuit combined with the Anton Corbijn film 'Control'. After successfully touring the band was dissolved. In 2013 the two decided to blow new life into the band under the name Joy Division Undercover, this time with Henk Koorn (Hallo Venray) in the ranks.

Documentary 'Joy Division'
The documentary "Joy Division" (2007) by Grant Gee tells the story of the influential band on the basis of personal anecdotes from friends and fellow musicians, plus special footage. Gee previously directed music videos for include Blur, Sparklehorse and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and made his film debut with the documentary 'Meeting People is Easy'. Here he laid Radiohead uniquely fixed during their world tour after OK Computer. 'Joy Division' has never been seen before in the Netherlands.

April DJ set
Jorn Mathijssen (vocals, bass) and Julia Hendriks (vocals, guitar) of the Utrecht post punk / new wave / pop group April provide a DJ set with the best from the world of new wave and post-punk. April debuted in 2011 with her EP 'April' and released February of this year the single The Rise And Fall Of A Beautiful Bird / Up Beat Generation onto Subroutine Records.

Founder new wave
Joy Division is considered the founder of the new wave. On the night of 17 on May 18, 1980 frontman Ian Curtis ended his life, after which the remaining members successfully went under the name New Order. Contemporary bands like Interpol, Arcade Fire, The National and Editors give to Joy Division as great inspiration to see.

I'm not sure if anyone here would care or not, but last night I recorded the Richard Thompson Electric Trio, enjoyed myself immensely and my recording came out really well. I have yet to split it into tracks and export to flac, nor will I have time to do so for at least a few days. Once I do, does anyone want me to upload it? Cheers

Awesome, will try to get it up within the week. I love me some RT and early Fairport, glad at least someone else here feels the same. It was the first full show I've see him play, and he was on fire! [I did see a short solo acoustic in-store set a year or two ago]

A Sailor's Life from the Unhalfbricking LP is one of the greatest tracks by anyone ever...

True story. Incidentally, Alan Licht suggests that song as a predecessor to "Marquee Moon" in the liner notes to the 2003 reissue of Television's untouchable debut album, but I've always thought "Sloth" from Fairport's Full House is a better fit. Not that Verlaine will ever admit having heard either tune before 1977 anyway (which may be true after all; he has no problem acknowledging the influence of, say, Five Live Yardbirds in Television's rave-up dynamics).

Wild. I always thought I heard a connection, but I doubted myself.

By the way, he's coming here in two weeks or so. I'm not sure if going will be worth it, though, since I'll probably be able to download the show later. And I'm close to broke. And I've seen him before. But it's Richard fucking Thompson. Hm.

I've been swamped with work lately, but I am about 3/4 of the way through splitting that tasty RT show into tracks, and soon I will finish and upload.

Thanks! Just listened to this. I have to say, every RT show is worth listening to for the stage banter alone. What a hilarious guy.

And I could be wrong, but I think this guitar master is actually getting better.
