trader joes used to be my go-to place for wine until a total wine opened near them. their coastal shiraz and... i forget what's the other one (lso a trader joe's coastal bla bla)... pretty great for under $5. the YELLOW price labels are the best deals... long story about them paying cash to the suppliers for their wine. they carry this little "green fin" withe organic table wine wich is awesome at like $3 or $4. their "block" boxes (red block/ white block) are a pretty awesome deal, probably the best value-- used to be $10 for 3 litres (4 bottles). now that it went up to $12 i'm getting bota box at totl wine instead, which is a it more (but worth the difference). the red one is a pretty solid australian shiraz... the white is a chardonnay which i don't like so much. but bota has riesling & pinot grigio for whites which are GREAT. plus a good cab, a great old vine zin and other varietals in reds. i only hope they come up with a nice rosé for the summer. best thing about boxes is you can just have a glass without having to down a whole bottle or mess with a vacuum pump that doesn't always work--- and quality wise they're fantastic. "big house" has some nice ones too-- their red zin is more of a summer red, really fruity. well today i drank "peach pie" which is an experiment i made soaking organic peaches in vodka. drank it out of a mason jar. it's okay but not great--- next fall i'll try them in brandy instead. |
Ipa and FUCK night school
|
that sounds tiring after a full day
!@#$%!- yeah, green fin is good.there's a total wine near me I'll check out. |
Full day AND night but if it weren't for these before bed brews id straight up snap. I have love affair with beer

i don't know total wine's prices on the wine bottles because i only buy wine boxes there (i also buy liquor but it's a different story). their good boxes are not as cheap as the trader joe's boxes, but they have better ones--- well, they have tons & tons of boxes of all kinds, from crummy to awesome. the thing about total wine is the mind-blasting variety-- it would be an overwhelming place if it wasn't so... happy, ha ha ha. you can find pretty much any kind of drink in that place. |
I'm on the way there now! i think i'm gonna just microwave a porcini lasagna from trader joes so i want a red

w/ mushrooms why not a pinot noir? the bota box one is pretty great and will work for many dinners. |
![]() I ended up not having the mushrooms and instead got a couscous/kale/garbanzo bean salad in a curry sauce and had this with it. still got a bottle of noir I already finished haha. |
^^ that looks tasty & all-- but paying retail for garbanzos...!

it was a frozen meal, eh

"May Bock" is a delicious full bodied lager but i prefer the doppelbock like a good Weihenstephaner Korbinian or a good Marzen bock like gordon biersch

I usually prefer a sprits of hendrix and a dash of grateful dead with my mushrooms ;) |

badum-tshhhh! =========== a blend of assam, keemum and lapsang. just a little smoky and good to drink all day. |

weihenstephaner, ah don't even get me started... I think I've noted that their hefeweizen is my favorite beer ever. I'm gonna go buy a bottle of three philosophers ale tonight though |
Bell's Hopslam.
Nice. But I don't get the $21/sixer price tag. I can't believe I actually spent my dough on two six-packs. The beer is undeniably good, a very well-balanced double IPA, 10% ABV. Not an easy thing to achieve. But still. $21? Great but not great enough for me to spend again like that. |

damn! you drink beer in the office?? (it's not even 11am in your time zone i think) hard core! |
Their heff is good but the Korbinian is honestly one of the best beirs IVE EVER HAD..
$21 a sixer is crack prices however at 10% you can't possibly drink more than 2 at a time so when you compare it to buying an expensive 12pack of some 5% there is a bit less "sticker shock".. and to be sure thats still cheaper than Chimay |
