And everyone thank Rob the Instigator for discussing music at the level of a ninth grader!

RATM "let's repeat the same pseudo-intellectual, pseudo-revolutionary clap trap over and over again while this fuck here riffs the same tired fat stupid dumb poor-man's-black-sabbath guitar wank! and let's get paid mightily by SONY! who puts our stuff out! way to be anti-corporate!"

I feel that Jimi Hendrix Experience's, "Are You Experienced" should be in the top ten for sure. It brought the genesis of feedback drenched guitar, in a way that had never been seen before, the power trio as a force for sonic might. Without that album and the Experience and Jimi there would be no sonic youth, no feedback loving ROCK juggernauts that we all love. Jimi Hendrix showed the true power of the electric guitar. In that way, Are You Experienced changed music forever.

all in all I think it is a very good list. The inclusion of the Spice Girls album is a fucking joke though. That album changed nothing. the incredibly pre-ordained media hype machinery to feed that album down ignorant 10 year old girls' throats is what "changed" things. Frankly I think it did not change anything. All it did was take what was already being donw (prefab music, pre-fab bands, carrtoons essentially) and do it in the most ostentatious way possible.

Talking Heads 77 is better than Fear of Music. they all rule though

The hilarity continues.

The 1990's called, they want their jokes back.

Can't be arsed reading the whole of this thread because from what I read it turned into "such and such band suck, why are they there" very soon and seeing as you guys seem to have to diversity of a panda in music it's pointless getting into an argument.

Just to clarify the list wasn't a countdown. It was just 50 albums in no order.

The observer WOOT

Ho-Hum.

Are we talking about influential in terms of how many people you influence or are we talking about artistic value inherent to a record? In that case, and sadly,'Nevermind' is most certainly a more influential record than 'What's going on'.The fact that 'What's going on' is a better record is a different story alltogether.

Rob Instigator 07.18.2006 09:38 AM

the 1990's can have their jokes if they can also take any and all memory of RATM and their ridiculous bullshit.
