The answer is yes, but its a long shot. Ironically this means that US stand a better chance of advancing past the Round of 16 should they survive the group stages because their group may just be harder then the next two rounds! Klinsmann is right, USA just got to step it up, that is what the World Cup is all about. Let France and Argentina have their pity Groups and muffin soft schedules, all the other groups are pretty challenging. Ivory Coast-Japan-Colombia? Belgium-South Korea-Algeria? SPAIN-NETHERLANDS-CHILE?? Its not like those cake-walk groups.. Only A/E/F are cake, and even they could hold some surprises..

If USA CAN'T win in their group, we really don't deserve to be there in the first place. Personally, with our new style of play and improved defense, I think we are competitive enough, we aren't ranked 14th in the world for nothing ;)

Bertrand 12.07.2013 06:26 AM

I had no idea of the reason France had landed in the safe pot.
Your views on Platini might be right (he was a Saint-Etienne player, a big team that had a slush fund thingy during his days, and testimonies abound to say that he ain't a nice guy when asked for an autograph), though it pains me to admit it. My father and him are from the same little town, from the same origins.

That thing about the false relief of being in a soft group... I do not know, I can't remember...
What I thought I remembered is the quick exit of teams that survived a GROUP OF DEATH... so relieved of achieving to overcome strong opposition, they couldn't cope with their next game. Can't find any example now, si I might be wrong.

!@#$%! 12.07.2013 11:03 AM

DJ Campbell has been arrested for match fixing

dont know what to say...

SonicBebs 12.09.2013 05:21 PM

i guess its only throw-ins and yellow cards but it's still proved that the only reason england haven't been given the world cup for being so fucking good is because sep blatter fixes every game against us and wants to extend the premier league to run all year so our stars get blisters

It's not ideal for us but while Uruguay will be tough and have to be favourites to top the group, Italy aren't that great and if we can't beat Costa Rica we may as well not even bother going. Not saying we'll do it but it could be worse. USA's group looks far worse than ours.

Yes, USA's group is indeed vile and disgustingly evil BUT don't sleep on Costa Rica. While CONCACAF teams rarely have the kind of beautiful and symmetrical offense that typifies Eurotrash teams and all those damned South Americans, one thing about CONCACAF is all the teams play hard, smash-mouth defense. Nothing shuts down a high-paced offense like some brawny CONCACAF defense, and Costa Rica knows their shit in that regard (their defense stats rank similar to Brazil/Argentina or Spain/Germany)...

Rob Instigator 12.11.2013 10:43 AM

what is that an image of punkaspoo?

Bertrand 12.12.2013 04:51 PM

Must be the pitch from last night's game in Turkey.
I read something about it, but this image stll surprises me.

Way back in the thread, this passage with the West Ham fan on the radio... I won't help putting his voice on the next very words the WH fan posting on here will use.

demonrail666 12.13.2013 04:02 AM

Haha. You probably mean me but I don't really sound anything like that (I think).

Cunt 12.13.2013 07:59 AM

the moyes situation is getting out of control. united fans clearly weren't prepared.

demonrail666 12.13.2013 12:20 PM

Haha. It was only a matter of time.

Moyes is safe for a season at least but there has to be genuine doubts as to whether he'll ever be the right manager for them. But we know the board got him to save money. They're downsizing. Their squad is weak compared with their main rivals, and, while we know all about Rooney wanting to leave, there's now strong rumours Van Persie is about to hand in a transfer request too. It's a massive rebuild job but will the calibre of players they need come to what increasingly looks like a team in decline, with a manager who lacks any kind of wow factor? MU fans who think their name is enough to attract the big names are deluded. It's money and guaranteed success that attracts the top players now, and MU can't offer either anymore. And I'm loving every minute of it.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 12.13.2013 12:32 PM

I don't know which is catching more hype, Klinsmann's return to Germany or US facing their only true WC rival Ghana? And if that weren't enough, now the whole "what will the US do about Ronaldo" chatter is bubbling, this is going to be one hell of a Group Stage..

This.

It highlights how good a manger Ferguson was. For too long United had managed on a few great players and a lot of average ones. Wellbeck? Watadick, Young? Watadick, Rafael? Watashit. And so on.

Suarez ... fucking hell. Hate him if you like but the man's on another level this year. If he keeps this up I'll be amazed if he's still at Liverpool next season, even if they do qualify for the CL. Ridiculously good.

h8kurdt 12.15.2013 04:36 PM

Yup it's killing me to see it too. It'd take a stupid offer, and I mean Bale stupid before Liverpool let him go.

demonrail666 12.16.2013 06:04 AM

AVB's the new favourite with the bookies to be the next manager sacked. Surely he'll be gone if they don't beat Southampton. Assuming he's still there by then.

--

Also interesting CL draw

--

EDIT: AVB gone

Bertrand 12.18.2013 01:39 PM

The loaves of bread of the sandwich pictured above seem tastier than what they squeeze.

Bye bye, AVB.

Fat chance, Spurs had only one non injured central defender against Liverpool. It didn't help.
The sacking was inevitable I guess. Suarez assisted 3 and scored 2. Gosh...

If... and this is a big if... Arsenal win it, I bet some will whinge and say it was all too easy as Arsène's the sole manager in the PL who's been his team's coach for more than 2 years.
They'll stress that all the more if Liverpool and Newcastle are on the podium.

City's pretty fine and fluent.

Yes, of course, and we're quite happy with that by the way, so duh, obviously I meant returning as a coach to play against his old team in Brazil. A lot of hype, particularly in Germany, is being built up about this matchup..

h8kurdt 12.20.2013 03:13 AM

How Malky Mackay hasn't smacked Tan in the face yet is probably one question a lot of people must be wondering.

It must suck to see some pillock become owner and destroy everything the club was about. It's the same with Hull too.

demonrail666 12.20.2013 05:55 AM

It won't happen cos of money but clubs should have a similar status to listed buildings, so you can still buy one but any proposed changes to an original or key feature has to be approved by an official board. A club's name and colours, etc, should be taken out of the hands of an owner's whim. I can't imagine how I'd feel if West Ham suddenly became say the West Ham Warriors, or changed their colours from claret and blue.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 12.20.2013 11:15 AM

Lebron, can we just bring you on USMNT for our Group of Death? It can be Lerbon vs Ronaldo

h8kurdt 12.21.2013 06:08 PM

Y'know there's all the big names in football like Ronaldo, Messi, Falcao, Ribery etc. that you always hear about being brilliant. Obviously I get to see them on Champions League games and internationals but not domestic games. So it's with this it's great being able to see Suarez week in; week out playing, to put simply, incredible football.

Shame he's a bloody racist, cannibalistic red!

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 12.22.2013 12:29 AM

(A) Suarez has become as big a name as those others so he is hardly some kind of David underdog

(B) Fuck that cheating, biting, racist bastard, and that he is playing so well of recent (and to be sure, he is playing epic futbol) will make his inevitable loss in a big game all the more satisfying, like watching Tom Brady or Peyton Manning lose. Shit, what made Ravens Superbowl win last year all the more fun was that Peyton and Brady both lost togther, it was fantastic, and when Suarez loses, more than likely to a team that both bites and handballs against him in the same game, even the Buddha and Jesus will high five about kharma..

demonrail666 12.22.2013 01:00 AM

The PFA awards will be interesting. Suarez should be a shoe-in, assuming he can keep even close to this form for the rest of season, but I can see a lot of players still finding it hard to vote for him.

h8kurdt 12.22.2013 02:21 PM

Well the whole point his playing this season and they can remember it's that then he should be a shoe in. Van Persie would have some catching up to do when he gets back.

demonrail666 12.22.2013 03:43 PM

I agree but I just can't see a lot of black players especially voting for him.
But yeah, Suarez as player of the season so far, Martinez as manager.

Haha yeah it is pretty difficult. But you can't deny a good player no matter who he plays for.

demonrail666 12.23.2013 03:40 PM

I used to have that problem with Lampard, probably the biggest pet hate for West Ham fans. Can't deny quality forever though.
