Wavves is like the logical middle child between Hospitals and No Age... maybe better melodies than Hospitals but noisier/punkier than no age. that's my imprssion thus far |

I think so, too. He is the most talented of the "new wave" of fingerpickers. I have also had the possibility to talk to him when he came with Jozef van Wissem as Brethren of the free spirit to BCN and he is also a cool guy in person. My fave album of him is "O true Believers". Magic. You all have convinced me to listen to his last album. I'm not lately in a instrumental-folk mood but it's definitely worth trying. |
excellent, thanks wellcharge..
|
listening to the ponytail album. amazing. such a fun album. really really good.

|

|
okay best album of the year is the new Experimental Dental School!
|
haha.

amazing album indeed. |
I love the new Blood Stereo, "The Magnetic Headache", Nyoukis doesn't quit being awesome ever.

one of the best for sure....in my top 5 possibly... |
experimental dental school were amazing live. way better live than on record. they lost a member.. the drummer.. so the keyboard player plays drums now. they played a few new songs. They were amazing.
|
I've only heard a handful of new albums this year... (I don't download and am very picky about what I buy)... and I've liked all of them.
Some of my purchased titles include reissues that are technically "new"... Mission of Burma, CCR, etc.... but I don't think they really count. There are also still a few that I'd like to catch up on. Here's my list of new stuff I loved that is actually new. LP Brighter Than Creation's Dark - Drive-by Truckers Offend Maggie - Deerhoof To Survive - Joan as Police Woman Third - Portishead Santogold - Santogold Smile - Boris Jukebox - Cat Power EP Another World - Antony and the Johnsons A Table Forgotten - Faun Fables |
I still like "Jane Doe Loves Me", but its taken a big sideline to the huge amount of amazing records I've heard throughout the past four months.

I saw them open for Deerhood in Tucson last week, and yeah they were fucking great! I went to the one at Club Congress and both bands were surprisinly good, but the Dental School were particularly impressive, lots of energy and confidence. |
Deerhood is kinda cool sounding.
|
haha, Deerhood.... as in, like deer genitalia?
|
You mean deerhooF don't you?
no? |
i had a top ten records of 08, but i forgot them all. all i've been listening to lately is PIL's first edition and gorilla biscuits and now my mind is blank.
|
i'm probably the only one who thinks the new deerhood album, offend maggaggie, sucks.
|
^I don't think it sucks but it pails when listened to after any of the past three albums.
|
don't like any of their albums much, honestly.
|
i have really been smitten by igntaz III. its really really good.
i think my top 3 as of snow are the new james blackshaw new david grubbs and ignatz oh and the new grouper is fantastic |
offend maggie is pretty good i think.. not as good as runners four but better than friend... mind you a severe dose of the shits coupled with two arms falling off is better than friend opportunity.

Too right, that's defiently one of my faves so far. |

yeah |
Offend Maggie did nothing for me really after the initial couple listens
|
^^ excbloodyellent LP, nuff said
their best for me, amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing |
Surprised no one's talking about the religious knives album that thurston produced. I think it's really good. I wasn't completely sold on them before, found most of their releases boring but could tell they had potential on "Resin", for example... but I am digging this one a lot more than anything else they've put out.

check my list |
Haha, I meant no one else.
|
havent heard it yet. i really like remains, i liked their other stuff that ive heard, but a lot less
|
I'm still updating my list every few weeks. I'll post the definitive list sometime in about a month from now.
