I believe that it's listenable. I just have absolutely no interest in listening to it.

I know that sounds a bit closed-minded, but I've given RHCP several shots over the years, and long ago I decided that I had no interest in continuing to listen to them.

Maybe it will wow me upon reevaluation like Year Zero and Ghosts did.

Fennesz + Jim O'Rourke is out, btw. Ordered my physical copy and previewed the tracks online (briefly, to give me something to look forward to), and I have to say that I think I'm going to prefer it to Fenn O'Berg. Been really looking forward to this one. Didn't even bother to glance at the Pitchfork review, because I'm not going to let them ruin it for me.

I feel I need to get this one ASAP, but for me Pitchfork or anyone else is less likely to ruin it than the cover itself! What are they doing to that doggy? :(

Yeah, I don't like it either.
Wait, are you making fun of me or does the cover really put you off?
Eh. I don't care. I don't like it.

Zero mockery this time — the cover really puts me off. Just what the FUCK were they thinking? I don't care if they put a guy getting punched in the dick on the cover; you don't mess with animals, man.

SonicBebs 06.30.2016 04:28 PM

The Tim Hecker album is really good

halgreen 06.30.2016 04:32 PM

That orourke/fennesz album is beautiful. I thought the pup was having a good time on the cover...

Agreed.

how is it possible for you guys to listen to both o'rourke and fennesz yet not understand that black humour is central to both their work Jesus fucking Christ

Savage Clone 07.02.2016 11:29 AM

The latest Oranssi Pazuzu is a total mindblower and I have heard little yet this year as good, in addition to the newest Aluk Todolo.

I understand that. It's more true of O'Rourke than it is of Fennesz, but yes, I get it. Completely. And yet, the artwork for Insignificance and Eureka doesn't even make me bat an eye. Mostly because it's illustrated, and entirely fanciful.

The cover of "...Sorry" is neither of those things. For all I know, it could just be a pic someone snapped of Jim (or Christjan or whomever) playing with a beloved family pet. But it could just as easily be something much more sinister. But either way, what it's a picture of is less relevant than what it presents, and this album cover aims to present an unsettling image of (implied) animak abuse.

You can have "black humor" shooting out your asshole and be dark as fuck your entire life without ever alienating the very people who support you most.

Not trying to turn this into a bigger deal than it is, but the fact is that the photo is fucking unsettling as hell, and I don't have to not be grossed out by it just because I happen to like (and "understand") the artists.

the new one is real reminiscent of the Analord series... slow-burning and chilled the fuck OUT.. and it's got some great sounds/timbres/textures. it's not packed full of twists and turns, or acrobatic flashy shit (Drukqs?)... definitely more meditative and relaxed, which i can dig. have you listened to the elseqs by Autechre? now that shit is wild-sounding, w/a life of its own.

Yeah, the new track is definitely a "type II" Aphex Twin tune, for sure. The first certainly wasn't boring, but it was pretty standard RDJ; the kind of thing we've heard on studio releases since the Richard D. James Album. That stuff is the bread and butter of Aphex Twin, though, so I fucking love it. But the newer track comes from a different place.

So far, I'm loving everything Cheetah's had to offer.

And I agree about Elseq 1-5. That project is in its own world entirely. SO MUCH Autechre!! It's like Christmas!

Analord is one of dickies better dumps and this song does sound familiar but this new stuff just sounds bereft and laboured something the aforementioned albums worst tracks suffered from. The best stuff on druqs/druqks/DRUGS is the piano pieces taylor made for sales execs the world over, like moby. Still ace nonetheless until you hear them in a nappie commercial or worse yet a fucking Kanye west song.

Is that the new autechre? It's got to be complete utter banter piss hasn't it?

it's a fucking goldmine, and it's massive, varied.. approx. four hours worth of new material. there's bound to be something on at least 1/5 of the eps that strikes yer fancy

Yes, Elseq 1-5 is new Autechre. No, it's not piss. It's incredible.

And "Blame Game" is a brilliant song. Wish Kanye had actually gotten RDJ's approval for the sample, but ultimately I don't care, because that song needed to be made, so fuck it.

EPs? Pretty long to be EPs. Feels more like 5 brand new full length albums to me. Or one REALLY FUCKING LONG album. Either way, yes... It's a goldmine for sure.
